New for 2025, we are thrilled to introduce the Green Bib Program at the Servus Calgary Marathon! Sometimes racing is about more than just collecting medals and shirts—it’s about the challenge, the camaraderie, and the journey to the start line. With the Green Bib, we’re giving you the option to embrace this mindset while making an eco-friendly choice and giving back to nature.

Why Choose the Green Bib

At Run Calgary, we are committed to making our events more sustainable, and we want you to be part of that journey. By choosing the Green Bib, you can focus on the pure joy of running, the energy of race day, and the community spirit—without the extra materials. Instead of receiving a race shirt and finisher medal, a $10 donation will be made to the Great Divide Trail Association (GDTA).

This local charity is dedicated to maintaining, protecting, and promoting the Great Divide Trail, a stunning 1,095 km route that winds through the Canadian Rockies, connecting Alberta and British Columbia. Your choice directly supports the preservation of natural spaces for future generations to explore and enjoy.

The Environmental Impact of Races

As race organizers, we see firsthand the environmental impact of large-scale events. Mass production of race shirts and medals requires raw materials, water, energy, and transportation, all of which contribute to carbon emissions. Race items can sometimes ultimately end up in landfills, adding to the waste problem.

By opting for the Green Bib, you’re helping to:

  • Reduce waste and excess production
  • Lower the environmental footprint of the race
  • Support a cause that protects natural landscapes

Small changes, when multiplied across thousands of runners, make a massive difference!

A Step Towards a More Sustainable Race

We’re always looking for ways to make our events more sustainable, and the Green Bib is another step in that direction. It’s about giving you the power to customize your race experience in a way that aligns with your values.

  • Focus on the journey, not the swag.
  • Make a meaningful impact with your registration.
  • Join a growing movement of green athletes.

Of course, sustainability doesn’t stop here! We’re also working on:

  • Reducing waste at aid stations by using compostable cups
  • Encouraging green modes of transport to the start line by providing complimentary transit on race days
  • Going digital for resources, race guides, coupons and finishers certificates
  • Just to name a few!

Together, we can redefine what it means to race responsibly.

Join the Movement

We invite you to be a part of the movement. Whether you’re a first-time participant or a seasoned marathoner, the Green Bib is your opportunity to make a difference—one step at a time.
