Servus Calgary Marathon Announces Race Day Amenities to Enhance Family Inclusivity

CALGARY | CANADA, March 16, 2023: Servus Calgary Marathon is excited to announce the addition of 3 new amenities for participants of the 2023 Servus Calgary Marathon.

“The team at Run Calgary is always looking to build our community and we are continually exploring how the Servus Calgary Marathon can reduce barriers to entry while emphasizing the importance of getting the whole family active. We’ve listened to our participants and built what we feel are three small steps to welcome more people on May 28, 2023.” said Jon Bird, Executive Director of Servus Calgary Marathon.

In partnership with SOGO Adventure Running, Servus Calgary Marathon will be offering an on-site day camp for children between the ages of 4-12 for a fee of $20 + GST. This will allow guardians participating in the 21.1 km or 10 km to drop off their kids with SOGO coaching staff before heading to the startline. The goal of this is to remove a barrier for parents or guardians who otherwise may not be able to participate in a race due to limited childcare options.

“The SOGO Adventure Running team is excited to partner-up and deliver something special for families in support of this very long-standing tradition of the Servus Calgary Marathon.” said Susie Materi, Program Coordinator SOGO Adventure Running

Servus Calgary Marathon will also be coordinating the addition of four Infant Feeding Stations. Two stations will be located on-course, and two stations will be located near the Servus Calgary Marathon start and finish areas. These stations will be freely accessible to any participants, volunteers or attendees who require a private space to breastfeed, pump, or bottle-feed.

The third and final pillar to the family inclusivity amenities will be the option for pregnant or postpartum individuals to defer their registration to the following year. The team behind the Servus Calgary Marathon understands that individuals may need to step back from running and walking during pregnancy and postpartum, this deferral program gives them the ability to continue to strive for a goal while managing one of life's curveballs.

Servus Calgary Marathon prides itself on being a family-friendly race, and the addition of these amenities will only further enhance this identity.

The 2023 Servus Calgary Marathon event brings thousands of runners, spectators and members of the industry media to Calgary. The Servus Calgary Marathon is the longest running marathon in Canada, and a staple in the Canadian Running calendar.
