It means no matter where you are in the world or if you are busy on the in-person event date, you can participate and fundraise anyways. Run your race at your pace on a treadmill or outside, at whatever time and on whatever day you choose during the race window.

All virtual participants will receive:

• Short sleeve technical running shirt
• Finisher Medal
• Personalized Bib (if registered before cutoff date)
• Virtual Results Leaderboard
• Training plans courtesy of ASICS Runkeeper
• Downloadable digital finisher’s certificate

Package Pick-up for virtual events takes place at GMC Stadium on the same days and times as Package Pick-up for in-person participants, unless you paid during registration to have your package mailed out to you. Please note that virtual race packages will be mailed out the week of May 18. If you registered after May 18, they will be mailed out the week of May 25

• It is not mandatory to track you time for the virtual race. 
• You are not required to run your race all at one time, however if you wish to use the Leaderboard, you will need to keep track of your cumulative time, and you will not be able to use the race feature on the RunKeeper app. 
• For those who wish to track their time, there are a number of tracking options including RunKeeper which syncs automatically to your Race Roster account and the Leaderboard.

• If you plan to use the Runkeeper app to train before completing your official virtual run, we recommend waiting to start the run until you’re ready to make it count!
• Log in to your Race Roster dashboard on your mobile phone, and click on Past Registrations - there you will see the Calgary Marathon and you scroll down to Start Virtual Run.
• Only GPS-tracked activities will count when using RunKeeper. Please track your race using your phone, Apple Watch, Garmin Watch, or Fitbit. Treadmill and manual activities are not valid for virtual RunKeeper races.

• Other apps: Tracking your time but don't want to use RunKeeper? You are welcome to run using your favourite app, or a good old fashioned watch. You will just need to ensure you make a note of, or take a screen-capture or picture of of your finishing time. You will then need to manually load your time and optional picture to the Leaderboard HERE. You will need your confirmation number for your event in order to manually upload your results. That can be found from your Race Roster account. 

Yes! Our registration partner, Race Roster, is set-up to receive virtual race results with the RunKeeper app. You will need to use a tracking app, running watch or GPS device to record your time. Don’t have an app or a device to track your time? No problem! You can also manually add your time to the virtual leaderboard.

Info on how to use the leaderboard and automatically sync OR manually upload your results will be emailed to you prior to the start of the virtual race window.

Virtual participants are NOT allowed to join the in-person event on race day. Participants with virtual bibs will not be allowed on the course on race day. If you are interested in joining the in-person event, please refer to our Transfer Rules outlined on the Rules & Regulations page.

Yes, changes to your race distance (or switching to in-person) can be completed. Depending on when you intend to make a transfer, you may be able to complete the transfer process online. If you are looking to transfer within 2 weeks of race weekend, you must transfer in-person at the Runner's Expo. Please note, if certain distances have already sold out and reached capacity, it is not guaranteed that you will be able to switch distances.

No! You can run it all at once or in segments and upload your aggregate time manually to the leaderboard when you have completed the entire distance. Instructions on the new release of RunKeeper and how to upload your finishing time will be sent to your email prior to the start of the virtual race window.
