Meet your 2023 Pace Team
Motivating. Reliable. Positive.
These are a few of the values that our Pace Team embodies. This team is ready to keep you motivated throughout your run, maintain an upbeat attitude, and support you especially during those tougher moments. Our pacers are also committed to maintaining a consistent pace that will help you cross the finish line at your goal time!
Su Yang started running in April 2021, and credits his running club "Dragon Warriors" for their support and guidance. Su did his first marathon in Calgary 2022 and Boston Qualified. He can't wait for Boston Marathon in April and Chicago Marathon in October 2023.
Steve has volunteered as a pacer for the marathon for several years now, and is looking forward to pacing the 50km for the first time. Steve has over 25 marathons under his belt and this year will be his 30 year anniversary from running his first marathon in Calgary in 1993.
Susan is a seasoned veteran with too many races under her belt to keep track! She has run well over 100 marathons and ultras. The beautiful community that a race brings together is the reason Susan continues to volunteer as a pacer.
Blaine is an Elite Master's runner, with a personal best marathon of 2:27 (London 2022). Blaine is also a 3-time Canadian 50 Mile Ultramarathon Champion, 5-time Guinness World Record holder, and 2015 North American winner of the ‘Wings for Life World Run’.
Most recently, Ryan completed the London Marathon in 2022, completing the race in 2:48. Ryan has completed 4 out of the 6 Major Marathons, with Tokyo and Berlin remaining.
Arden started training for marathon with their wife in 2014. Since then, Arden has completed over 18 full marathons, among them, Chicago, Berlin and Boston 4 times. Arden was also a pacer for the Servus Calgary Marathon in 2022!
Chris is here to have a great run with some awesome people!
Lei started training for marathons with her husband in 2014. Since then, Lei has completed over 18 full marathons, among them, London, Chicago, Berlin and Boston 4 times.
Wei started to run 12 years ago and still loves it!
Sean has ran 35 marathons, including 17 at the Calgary Marathon! Sean has also been a marathon pacer 15 times at various marathon events.
Claire ran her first marathon in Calgary in 2014 and was hooked! Claire is hoping that by this year’s Calgary Marathon, she and her husband will be Abbott World Marathon Majors 6 Star Finishers. The 2023 Calgary Marathon will be Claire's 23rd marathon and third time pacing the distance.
Trevor is a 2023 Boston and NY Marathon qualified runner that started running in 2019 due to traffic in Los Angeles. The 18km runway to beach commute from terminal 6 at LAX to the office in Santa Monica made Trevor realize that running for more than 6km was not just possible, but wonderful!
Running is part of his life, and Jon will always be happy to share and spread the joy of long-distance running.
Lauren ran her first marathon in 2017 (it was the Calgary Marathon!) and I fell in love with that distance! Since then, Lauren has run 6 Marathons (The Calgary Marathon 3 times, The Edmonton Marathon 2 times and The Boston Marathon once) and will be running the Boston Marathon again in April!
So far Samanta has completed 115 official marathons and it’s just the start! Samanta's first marathon was in 2018, and in 2022 she paced for 10 European marathons.
One of JC's core ideals is that running is for everyone and anyone who wants to run, which he feels is a direct reflection of his commitment to diversity and inclusion. Running at all levels is something JC feels should always be celebrated and championed. JC has completed over 300 marathon/ultras and has been pacing since 2014.
Lucas has always enjoyed running and uses it as a way to clear his head and get outside. Lucas ran track & field and cross country throughout high school and university, and now runs whenever he has free time.
Sib started running by signing up for the 50km Ultra plus the 5km round-up, which nearly made him never want to run again! Since then, Sib has run a few other 50km ultras, the Calgary Marathon in 2021, Boston Marathon in April 2022, Victoria Marathon in 2022, and the Canmore half marathon in 2022. Sib also paced the Calgary half marathon last year for the 1:30 pace time.
Jeff has run the Calgary Marathon multiple times, and also volunteered at many of our events over the years. Jeff is a 10-time marathoner, Boston Marathoner x 2, a lululemon legacy Run Ambassador, among other ambassadorship roles. Jeff has previously paced for the Lululemon 10k in Edmonton.
Stephen started running in 2019 with the goal of completing a half marathon. Now, after close to 4 years later, Stephen has run countless half marathons, three full marathons and loves the sport.
Raina has run 13 full marathons, 1 ultra-marathon, and countless half marathons. Raina is also halfway through completing the 6 Abbott World Marathon Majors. She ran her first marathon in 2004 with the intention of "just running one to try it" but got hooked. Raina has been fortunate to have had pacers help her achieve her own goals of PR's and qualifying times, and has been lucky enough to be a pacer for the Calgary Marathon in both the full and half marathon distances over the past three years!
Annie has completed 14 marathons, including 9 world major marathons. This March, Annie will participate in the Tokyo World Marathon Major to capture her 6 Star Medal. Annie has participated in the Boston Marathon annually since 2019, and will run her 5th Boston Marathon this April.
Anne has run countless races from 10k to marathons, but hold a special place in her heart for the Calgary Marathon. This is the race where Anne qualified and got into her first in-person Boston Marathon. Anne always looks forward to either running or helping out during the Calgary Marathon because this is the place where dreams come alive.
Lilana is a long time passionate runner who has completed 17 marathons and going to run Boston number 8 this April. Lilana loves to lead other runners and help them reach their goals.
Running is something Matt has always loved. The 5k and 10k distances are something Matt has excelled at recently, with a 1st place podium finish in his age category at Melissa's road race this last fall. Matt has been a pacer for three different races now, with his closest time being within 4 seconds.
Sahar enjoys running and supporting others to reach their goals. Beyond that, Sahar loves the running community and the connections formed as we push our limits and go to places we did not think was possible. Sahar started running to have a healthy lifestyle and has gained so much more.
Janelle is an avid runner who loves motivating the community to get involved and reach their potential! Janelle loves running so much so she recently became a running coach!
Tina initially started running in 2015 to lose weight but it quickly became a part of her routine and she has since explored half marathons, marathons, ultra marathons, a 674 day run streak averaging 5km, and everything in between!
Dr. Gerry is a Calgary Marathon legend, becoming an octogenarian 6-star World Marathon Major finisher in 2021 at age 84. Gerry started running in his 50's, and has since completed dozens of marathons, becoming a top ranked marathoner in the world in the 80 years and over category.
Dr. Gerry has also led hundreds of runners through the finish line throughout the years, pacing at over 25 races! Gerry says "It’s not really my race. I’m here to encourage others to achieve their goals, give them advice or remind them to stay hydrated."
Sarah is an enthusiastic amateur runner and triathlete who has been racing for a decade in Calgary. Sarah loves the Calgary Marathon weekend having run all distances, it's the home-coming of running for us all. She has run 4 marathons, more than a dozen half marathons, multiple triathlons including 2 70.3's and will be doing a full in 2024. Sarah loves being involved in the local running community and it has become her home.
Henry has been running for 16 years and has paced full marathon and 50K previously.
After high school, Diane was determined to get back to being active again. Diane tried a 10K race back in 2016 after volunteering at races previously. Since then, Diane has been committed to maintaining some running consistency.
This will be Laura's 13th year in a row participating in Calgary Marathon weekend. Laura has completed everything from the 5k to the marathon - including walking the 5k in 2016 while 7 months pregnant, and doing the Roundup virtually in 2020 to keep her streak alive.
Christina has been running for approximately 10 years for fun, and enjoys getting outdoors and exploring the city through running. Christina enjoys seeing her progress through the seasons, and doesn't take herself too seriously if she's having an off running day!
Ronnie's mom inspired her to get into long distance running. While i is a challenge to be a pacer, Ronnie believes this will be very rewarding. Ronnie had a spinal surgery in 2021, and feels that being able to run again is a blessing.

Montana started running in her early twenties as a way of getting into shape again. It was a love-hate relationship for a couple years, but she could feel herself getting faster, and feeling more comfortable. Montana did her first 10k race in 2015 and hasn't stopped since!
Daihong has been running regularly since 2016, and volunteered at last year's Calgary Marathon event and really loved the experience. For this year, he is excited to take it one step further and volunteer as a pacer!

This is Isaac's first year in Calgary, since he moved from Hong Kong. Isaac has run 5 full-marathons, 4 half-marathons and numerous 10km-marathons in Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Simon started running in 2011, and has fallen in love with the sport ever since.
Diana is Head of the Strathmore Run Club, and lead 3 Learn to Run 5km programs. Diana started running at 54, and is now 65. She has completed 10 half marathons, and completed her 1st full marathon in 2022 at Calgary.
Heather worked her way up from learning to run, years ago, and challenging herself with a Calgary Marathon 5k as her first race in 2015. Now, Heather is a seasoned marathoner! Heather loves the energy that builds on the pathways as we get closer to the marathon race weekend, and the thrill of crossing the finish line!
